How to Choose Your Wedding Flowers When You Don’t Know Where to Start

You've booked the venue. You've said yes to the dress. And now someone's asking you what flowers you want for your wedding, and you have absolutely no idea.

Start with the feeling, not the flowers

Before you think about specific blooms, think about how you want the room to feel. Romantic and lush? Clean and modern? Soft and garden-inspired? Wild and organic?

That feeling is the foundation. Once we know it, the flowers follow naturally.

Look at your venue

A bright, airy ballroom calls for different florals than a candlelit waterfront estate. Pay attention to ceiling height, wall colors, and lighting. The best floral design works with the space, not against it.

If you're getting married at a luxury venue in Miami, Palm Beach, or anywhere along Florida's coast, the architecture and natural light will shape the design more than you might expect.

Save photos, but not too many

A Pinterest board can be a great starting point. It can also be overwhelming. Aim for 10–15 images that genuinely move you, then look for patterns. Are they full and organic, or clean and minimal? Do you keep coming back to white and green, or blush and terracotta?

Those patterns tell us more than any single image.

Know your priorities

The ceremony arch and bridal bouquet are in every photo, so for many couples, those come first. For others, the reception is where most of the evening happens, so that's where they invest most. Neither is wrong. Knowing where it matters most helps us build something that works for your wedding specifically.

Don't wait until everything is decided

You don’t need to know the names of flowers or arrive with a perfectly curated Pinterest board. A good florist will guide you through the process, recommend blooms that fit your style, season, and budget, and create a design that feels uniquely yours. The goal isn’t to recreate someone else’s wedding; it’s to create flowers that feel right for your celebration.
